HP DeskJet 3720 WiFi Setup – Things to Know Before You Start

Before beginning the wireless setup, it is important to prepare the printer, computer, and router correctly. A few basic checks can prevent detection errors and make the installation process much smoother.

What You Need Before Setting Up

Make sure the printer is placed close enough to the WiFi router and connected to a stable power source. Your Windows 11 computer should also be connected to the same wireless network you want to use for the printer.

You will need:

• Your WiFi network name

• The correct wireless password

• A Windows 11 computer

• A stable internet connection

• The HP Smart app

• The HP DeskJet 3720 switched on

It is also helpful to remove any unnecessary USB connections before starting the wireless setup. This helps the HP Smart app identify the printer as a wireless device instead of treating it as a wired printer.

Check Your Printer’s Wireless Status

Look at the wireless light on the printer before continuing. A blinking light usually means the printer is searching for a network or waiting to be configured, while a steady light generally indicates that it is already connected.

If the printer was previously connected to another router, you may need to restore its network settings before beginning the new HP DeskJet 3720 WiFi setup. Keep the printer close to the router during the setup and avoid placing it near thick walls, large appliances, or other devices that may interfere with the signal.

Once the printer, computer, and network are ready, you can proceed with the wireless connection process.

How to Connect HP DeskJet 3720 to Wireless

Once everything is ready, you can connect the printer to your WiFi network. The easiest method is through the HP Smart app, which guides you through each step and automatically installs the required settings. If your router supports WPS, you can also connect without entering the WiFi password manually.

Connect HP DeskJet 3720 to Wireless Using HP Smart

The HP Smart app is the recommended method for completing the wireless setup. It helps your computer locate the printer, connect it to your WiFi network, and install the necessary drivers in one process.

• Turn on your HP DeskJet 3720 printer.

• Open the HP Smart app and click Add Printer.

To connect using WPS:

• Turn on the printer.

• Press and hold the Wireless button until the wireless light starts blinking.

Troubleshooting HP DeskJet 3720 WiFi Problems

Even after following the correct setup process, you may still experience connection issues. Fortunately, most wireless issues can be resolved with a few simple troubleshooting steps.

HP DeskJet 3720 Not Connecting to WiFi

• Make sure the printer is within range of the router.

• Re-enter the correct WiFi password.

• Reset the printer's wireless settings and reconnect it.

• Update the printer firmware through the HP Smart app.

• Disable any VPN connection during setup.

• Connect the printer to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network if your router supports dual-band networks.

After completing these steps, open the HP Smart app again and check whether the printer appears in the device list. If it does, print a test page to confirm that the wireless connection is working correctly.

Common HP 3720 Printer Wireless Setup Problems

Some issues occur after the printer has already been connected. These may include failed print jobs, the printer showing as offline, or Windows being unable to communicate with the device. Most of these problems are easy to resolve by checking your network and printer settings.

Common issues include:

• Printer showing Offline in Windows.

• Incorrect or outdated printer drivers.

• Weak or unstable WiFi signal.

• Incorrect wireless password.

If the problem continues after trying these solutions, remove the printer from Printers & scanners, restart your computer, and perform the HP 3720 printer wireless setup again using the HP Smart app. A fresh installation often resolves persistent connection problems caused by incorrect network or driver configurations.
